Michigan Assigned Claims Plan (MACP)

The Michigan Assigned Claims Plan (MACP) helps people injured in a Michigan motor vehicle accident who do not have access to no-fault auto insurance. It provides Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits through an assigned insurance company when no other coverage is available.

Who Is Eligible?

You may qualify for MACP benefits if all of the following apply:

  • You were injured in a motor vehicle accident in Michigan
  • You do not have a no-fault policy
  • No one in your household has a no-fault policy
  • You were not driving a vehicle you own that was uninsured
  • You were not using a vehicle unlawfully
  • You are not eligible for coverage under any other auto policy

What Does MACP Cover?

If you’re found eligible, MACP will assign your claim to an insurance company, which will pay standard PIP benefits, including:

  • Medical expenses (hospital, surgery, rehab, etc.)
  • Lost wages (up to 3 years)
  • Replacement services (e.g., household help)
  • Funeral and survivor’s benefits (if applicable)
Note: PIP benefits through MACP are limited to $250,000 per person, per accident under Michigan’s 2019 No-Fault Reform.

What Is Not Covered?

MACP does not cover:

  • Vehicle or property damage
  • Collision or comprehensive claims
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist claims

This plan is strictly for bodily injury PIP benefits.
